TRS News Fan Favorite App Congratulations to Lindsay Templeton, TRS Class of 2016. She and an Enloe classmate made it to the top 5 in the 2021 Lenovo App Challenge AND won Fan Favorite! Their app is called Destigmatizing Healthcare and aims to provide important medical information to disenfranchised communities, specifically women, POCs, and the LGBTQ+ community. Justice Poetry Allison Sargent, TRS Class of 2020, entered the Town of Wake Forest 2021 Martin Luther King, Jr. contest for students in the Wake Forest and Rolesville schools. The contest was in celebration of MLK Day and Dr. King's legacy. Entries could be of performances (singing, speaking, writing, and art) and were based on the theme " Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." Allison won first place in the middle school category for her poetry. Way to go Allison! You can donate to add plants to The Raleigh School is planting a garden in recognition and honor of the retirements of Mary Covington, Colleen DuPre, Steve Sather, Jan Schnurr, and Sue Spaccarotella.
The BEE Kind Garden located just outside the third grade has been designed as a pollinator garden and it will become home to birds, butterflies and blooming flowers. We hope this space will inspire kindness in us all. Thank you Mary, Colleen, Steve, Jan and Sue for your dedication and for making a difference in the lives of many children who have been fortunate enough to be in your classrooms.
There were big smiles and happy hearts when Harriet Lasher (The Raleigh School's founding Head of School) visited at the end of the last school year with our elementary faculty. Harriet enjoyed a 29-year tenure. She reminisced about the early years of the elementary school, talked about our strong teaching roots in project-based learning, and applauded the hard work of current faculty in support of children and families during the pandemic.
Alumni Stories Hannah Mix, Class of 2004, moved to New York City after high school to study business at the Fashion Institute of Technology. After graduating in 2018, she was recruited to work for Christian Dior Couture in their HR Department. She's been working at Dior for two years and loves every minute of it.
Camille Churchwell, Class of 2007, after spending time in Lille, France teaching ESL, Camille is back in the area working as a financial analyst at Parexel, a global clinical research organization and biopharmaceutical services company.
Katie Baker, Class of 2010, won the Undergraduate Prize in Economics, 2021 from UNC. Katie graduated in May with a double major in Economics and Statistics and Analytics. Using research from her Summer Fellowship in Economics (2020), she focused her honors thesis on the effects of pandemic-related job loss and its impact on food insufficiency, as well as investigating the role unemployment insurance programs played in addressing that risk. She is off to NYC to work for the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
Tyler Marshall, Class of 2010, is working with the Holly Springs Salamanders this summer operating Trackman at their home games to assist with player evaluation.
John Peterson, Class of 2010, recently graduated from Duke University and is working as a Software Engineer at Coinbase.
Ava Autry, Class of 2012, a rising junior at Tufts University is a DCCC Summer Fellow.
Chloe Griffin, Class of 2014, was accepted to the University of Pennsylvania into a dual program studying nursing and healthcare management. She has a passion for science and helping others.
Zach Judge, Class of 2014, has committed to rowing crew at Florida Tech this fall, where he plans to study aviation with flight training.
Christina Polge, Class of 2015, won the North Carolina Poetry Society's Sherry Pruitt Award earlier this school year in March. She earned this top statewide honor for her poem manifest destiny. Entries were submitted from high school and undergraduate college students.
Ella Gupta, Class of 2016, has written and published a book on financial topics impacting her generation called, Gen Z Money $ense: A Personal Finance and Investing Guide. This guide addresses relevant topics for Gen Z - investing apps, cryptocurrencies, Environmental Social Governance investing, automation, mobile banking.
Lindsay Templeton, Class of 2016, raised over $5,300 to financially support families of kids with cancer through the organization JUST TRYAN IT. After reaching her goal of $5,000 she shaved her head (over 25 inches of hair). She was the top fundraiser and set an organization record for the number of donors.
Andrew Sargent, Class of 2021, won first place for performance of an excerpt of one of MLK's speeches in the elementary school category of the 2021 Town of Wake Forest - Martin Luther King, Jr competition.
Campus Sightings Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow Some things never change. Raleigh School kids are still building forts on campus. We discovered this creative structure this past spring. Try it out! You're never too old to build a fort. These AMAZING mural tiles, designed by TRS Class of 2021, are installed above the doors of the TRS gym and are jazzing up the space. Congratulations to our most recent graduates! Hope you have a great start to middle school! Alumni Volunteers The TRS Drive-In CARnival is back this year! We are looking for alumni volunteers to help us at our pit stops. The on campus event will take place on November 6.
